August Bank Holiday means travelling to the southwest for rowers in search of competition. Gloucester and Ross regattas, one on a canal, the other on the River Wye, have been established for years and are popular end of season venues.

At Gloucester Adam Stancer, a sixth form pupil at the George Spencer School (Stapleford), coached by Martin Kay, won J17 sculls after three hard races. Ollie Bailey, Andrew Shore, Colin Partridge and Toby Powell coached by Clive Fletcher and coxed by Ewan Woodley beat Burton Leander Rowing Club in the final of Novice fours. Lucy Mason from West Bridgford School rowed with Ellen Sutherland of Trent Rowing Club and won Women’s J16 double Sculls.

At Ross, Lucy and Ellen won yet again in a quadruple scull combination.
