Trials at Boston for Rio-bound rowers

With less than 300 days to the Olympic finals, all interested rowers headed for Boston and the River Witham on the wekend of 31st of October / 1st of November. On the Saturday they faced a 2000 m timed piece on the Concept 2 Indoor Rower; those who met the criteria had a 5000 m row on the river on Sunday. They were joined by U23 and University athletes anxious to qualify for their respective 2016 squads.

Nottingham Rowing Club, with coaches Dez Atkins and Nicola Benavente, sent 10 members.

In the heavyweight men's division of 63, Ayrton Carlton was 18th, Jonathon Stimpson 22nd, George Hallewell 30th and Joshua Tolley 33rd.

Harvey Kay from Rushcliffe School was 34th from 73 in men's lightweight sculls.

In a large group of 77 women Katie Bartlett was 43rd and the 11th U23 rower, Caitlin Boyland came 47th, Kirstie Maxfield 49th, and Primrose Wilkins 60th.

Kathryn Aguilar-Agon was the 19th sculler in the women's lightweight division of 33.

Further trials in the Olympic build up take place in Boston in December and February.
