Several victories for Nottingham Rowing Club juniors at 150th St Neots Regatta

Nottingham Rowing Club returned from the 150th St Neots Regatta with several trophies. The event took place over the week-end of 25th/26th of July on the River Great Ouse in Cambridgeshire. The course was 1,000m on Saturday and 500m on Sunday. Saturday was fine and breezy and on Sunday it rained all day.

Rowing over the 1,000m course, with its notorious bend, the Nottingham crews ran up 4 wins and had a 100% record on the day. Ella Kay (West Bridgford School), Lucy Holgate (Sutton Coldfield GS), Priya Jenkins (Loughborough Girls High School) and Katie Swales (South Notts Academy) won W Intermediate 2 Quadruple sculls beating a strong reg ional field.Priya and Katie won WJ18 double sculls .Lucy won WJ16 Single sculls. James Mawby (Nottingham City Academy) and Harvey Kay (Rushcliffe School) tried their hand at sweep-oared rowing, as distinct from sculling. They were loaned a boat by club veterans and took on an 8 boat entry in IM3 coxless pairs. As winners they gained blisters and silverware. Coach Martin Kay was delighted that the juniors won every race entered.

On a depressing wet, cold and windy Sunday, 'Bracing' said Martin Kay, over the sprint 500m course Nottingham's juniors added 2 more trophies. Lucy won WJ16 Sculls again. James Mawby won J18 Sculls .

So far in the 2014/15 season Nottingham Rowing Club has won 63 winter trophies and 72 summer.Last year at the same regatta the club, founded in 2006, passed 1,000 wins over 8 years.
