Early assessment trials for junior rowers hoping for a place in Team GB, including a possible trip to Rio de Janeiro for the Junior World Rowing Championships 2015, took place on the River Witham in Boston (Lincolnshire) on a cool wet 23rd of November.

Trialists rowed over a 5000m stretch of the River Witham just as their senior counterparts had done a week before.

Nottingham Rowing Club, Nottingham City's Amateur Club of the year 2014, sent several youngsters from local Comprehensive Schools with their coaches Dez Atkins, Martin Kay and Julie Edwards.

First home amongst nearly 100 boys was James Mawby (Nottingham City Academy) in 21st place, less than a second behind was Harvey Kay (Rushcliffe School,West Bridgford). Faisan Shah (West Bridgford School) was 40th. James and Faisan were recently made Junior Team of the Year at the Rushcliffe Sports Awards 2014.

In the girls race, with a field of 72, Kyra Edwards (George Spencer School) and on the British Rowing 'Start' programme, came 2nd and Anna Thornton (Becket School) was 3rd in a race won by Alice Bowyer from Gloucester Hartpury, a Further Education College. The first three girls opened up a clear gap with the competition in a rate capped row of 26 strokes per minute.
