The 7th European Universities Rowing Championships were recently held in Moscow from August 30 September 2nd. 137 crews from 14 countries competed for the medals, with 10 British Universities sending 68 athletes to the event. The GB team returned with 11 medals, placing them third in the overall rankings behind Russia and Germany.

Nottingham Rowing Club’s Nottingham University member Ed Mace came 5th in the Men’s Lightweight sculls, and Richard Whatton and Stuart Sykes were 4th in the Men’s Lightweight double sculls.

Nottingham Trent University sculler Nikki Spencer won the silver medal in the Women’s Lightweight sculls and Emma Corless and Becca Gill came 7th in the Women’s double sculls. Nikki felt that it was a great experience and Moscow was an unusual place to go for a holiday!

The students, who resume full time training within days, train under the direction of Dez Atkins, Nottingham Rowing Club’s High Performance coach, at the National Watersports Centre at Holme Pierrepont.
