As well as the highly successful competitive aspect of the club, Nottingham Rowing Club has a very active recreational rowing group which places emphasis on touring, keeping fit and social activities. The 'Explore Rowing' section is coordinated by Richard Willan and he reports:-

"In early May nine members of the group enjoyed a very successful trip to Hamburg in an exchange with RG Hansa. We explored the central Alster lakes as well as a delightful network of canals and rivers running throughout the city. A second day was spent near Bergedorf on the scenic Dove Elbe to reach the 2000 m international rowing course. Extra-curricular activities included visiting the spectacular Maritime Festival that was taking place at the same time."

The trip itself as on previous occasions was organised by Richard Pickup, a keen tourer.

Nottingham Rowing Club's 'Explore Rowing' section is expanding its activities and will run more sessions for those interested. Nikki Spencer is currently running a 'Learn to Row' course, and can be contacted at  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
