Shrewsbury Regatta is a traditional side by side, winner takes all, river race.On the 7th&8th May,the hottest week-end of the year so far,Nottingham Rowing Club competed over a 1,000m upstream course on the River Severn on Saturday and won 5 trophies,again on a 600m stretch on Sunday they won another 5 and returned to Trentside with 10 victories.

On Saturday the Masters/Veteran F Eight for over 60's of Steve Cuthbert,Tony Lorrimer,Chris Beesley,Andy Townsend,Mike Walker,Shane McSweeney,Kevin Titterton and Paul Johns beat Grosvenor Rowing Club to win the final.The Elite Quadruple Scull of Harvey Kay from Rushcliffe School,George Halliwell,Jon Stimpson and Josh Tolly beat Grange School in the final then with Sam Smith replacing Josh Tolley they won Intermediate 1 Quads.Picking up where they left off at Leicester Regatta Harvey Kay beat Upper Thames to win Elite Sculls and Sam Smith won Intermediate 2 Sculls.

On Sunday the winning continued with the Saturday Elite Quad beating Runcorn Rowing Club in the final.The Intermediate 1 Double Scull of Josh Tolley and Jon Stimpson also beat Runcorn.Then a series of Nottingham versus Nottingham finals saw Jon Stimpson win Intermediate 1 Sculls,George Halliwell took the Elite Scull title and together they won Elite Doubles.

The Nottingham scullers were  fortunate to have West Bridgford resident and World Rowing Champion Tom Kay keeping a friendly eye on them and giving useful racing advice in the heat.Tom joked that his contribution was eating plenty of ice-cream!
