5 WINS FOR NOTTINGHAM ROWING CLUB AT LOCAL LEICESTER REGATTA

Leicester Regatta was held on Sunday 24th April in the centre of the city on a 700m stretch of the 'Mile Straight'on the Grand Union Canal.The narrow course needed skilled steering from scullers and those from Nottingham Rowing Club were well up to the task.Transport of boats to the venue was provided by Ruddington based 'Oarsport' suppliers of 'Wintech'racing boats.

Harvey Kay(Rushcliffe School)beat fellow club member Alex Watkins , in Loughborough Student's colours, by blasting off the start and never letting him back.He went on to win Elite Sculls and followed that with winning Intermediate 2 Sculls against Leicester Rowing Club.Alex Watkins won  Intermediate 3 Sculls.Scott Smith, an apprentice with a precision engineering firm 'Spline Gauges 'of Tamworth,celebrated his seventeenth birthday by not only winning Junior 18 Sculls by beating Leicester Rowing Club but taking the Junior 17 title,against Northampton Rowing Club, too.

Focus for this coming week-end will be the BUCS (British Universities & Colleges Sport ) 3 day regatta at the National Watersports Centre at Holme Pierrepont.Several Nottingham Rowing Club athletes will don Loughborough Students kit and compete for their University.
