The 24th Nottinghamshire Sports Awards 'Celebrating Sporting Success' took place in early February at the Nottingham Conference Centre, in the heart of Nottingham Trent University. Mark Shardlow and Angela Rafferty from the BBC were co-hosts. Nottingham Rowing Club were shortlisted in three events: Young Coach of the Year, Junior Team of the Year and Disabled Sportsperson of the Year. The nominations read:-

"Declan Gamble coaches at Nottingham Rowing Club where he looks after a large junior squad. They have had success at a wide variety of regattas throughout the year. He was also Team Manager for the East Midlands at the Junior Inter-regional Regatta. He supports 'Learn  to Row' courses for adults new to the sport and works with children on rowing summer schools. He is currently working on a level 3 coaching course with British Rowing."

"The Nottingham Rowing Club Junior Girls won 18 trophies and broke several course records during the season. They won novice eights and quads breaking the course record by 10 seconds at Peterborough. Two of the girls rowed as part of the High Performance Group and won the Head of the Trent and the Women's Head Provincial Pennant. The girls have shown great commitment to the sport having to balance training with GCSE  and A level courses."

"Grace Clough has had a great year achieving a new World Record for a disabled athlete on the Concept 2 Indoor Rower. Grace won two gold medals in the mixed LAT coxed four breaking the world record in Varese in Italy. She won again in Rio in August at the World Championships beating the USA by 0.2 seconds!Grace is the fastest disabled woman on the rowing machine in the world."

The Nottingham entries were runners up in all three categories and look forward to competing again in 2016. The Junior Girls have been runners up to Nottingham Corsairs Rugby Club three times over the awards season. It would be interesting to see how the boys coped on the indoor rower.
