A 51-strong squad looked for a third successive win for the GB Rowing Team in the annual junior U16 Match against France. A total of 13 crews, consisting of 27 junior men, 22 junior women and two spares competed in London's Docklands on Sunday 12th of July. All had come through a well-contested selection regatta at the National Watersports Centre in Nottingham.

For the third year in succession Nottingham Rowing Club provided a Double Scull for the GB team, with Hannah Stocks and Lucy Holgate (coached by Declan Gamble) donning GB kit to take on the French. Hannah and Lucy bring to six the total number of internationals selected for Rowing Team GB so far this season.

In 2013 and 2014 the Nottingham Rowing Club crews had been part of winning GB Teams, and had won gold themselves, so hopes and expectations were very high. Lucy and Hannah did not disappoint. In a hotly contested final, rowing in a loaned Wintech Cobra Double from Oarsport in Ruddington, they faced a French boat which was part of a talent ID squad. Conditions were difficult with a cross/headwind but having trained at Holme Pierrepont they were up to the task and won by two lengths.

Overall Rowing Team GB recorded a crushing 10-3 victory over the French who next year on home soil will be out for revenge.
