Weekend of success for Nottingham Rowing Club

On Sunday 26th of April, rowing over 700m of the Grand Union Canal in Leicester the Nottingham Rowing Club Women's Masters D  coxed four of Ruth Hyde,Elli Welham,Jill Titterton and Sarah Royles coxed by Rebekah Royles, winning her first coxing pot on her 20th birthday, beat a younger Abingdon crew.

On Saturday over a longer course on the National Watersports Centre at Holme Pierrepont and in a howling tail wind the Women's Junior 16 Quadruple Scull of Lucy Holgate,Rachael Heap,Hannah Stocks and Charlotte Brown won the silver medal in the Junior Inter Regional Regatta where crews from the twelve rowing regions in the Country do battle.Max Parker won the bronze medal in the boy's Under 16 Sculls. The Nottingham rowers were representing the East Midlands Region.The J15 and J16 doubles of Abi Clark and Bella Barlow and Lucy Holgate and Charlotte Brown  came 4th in their A finals.

Sundays races over 2000m at the Watersports Centre to secure places in this years Junior Team GB saw Anna Thornton from the Becket School,coached by Dez Atkins, lead from start to finish in the Women's Junior Single Sculls. In second place was Kyra Edwards,coached by Nicola Benevente, from the George Spencer School. Nottingham's girls were well ahead of the rest of the field. Both Anna and Kyra have been approached by American Universities offering them generous sports scholarships if they row for them,an unexpected bonus for youngsters involved in rowing.
