The Nottinghamshire Sports Awards, 'Celebrating Sporting Success', took place at the Nottingham Conference Centre on Burton Street. It was a Sport Nottinghamshire/Nottinghamshire County Council production. Mark Shardlow and Angela Rafferty from the BBC were the presenters.

As Malcolm Cowgill, Chairman of Sport Nottinghamshire, the County Sport Partnership, said: "The Awards Evening is such a great opportunity to showcase all the fantastic elements of sport across Nottinghamshire. A date firmly fixed in the local sporting calendar where we acknowledge the impact of coaches,clubs,individuals,teams and projects alike.The standard of this evenings categories is exceptional and on behalf of Sport Nottinghamshire  I congratulate the finalists."

Nottingham Rowing Club had five finalists: Ashley Hewitt for Young Coach of the Year. Dez Atkins for Performance Coach of the Year and Anna Thornton (Becket School) for Junior Sportsperson of the Year. Faisan Shah (West Bridgford School) and James Mawby (Nottingham City Academy)  were up for Junior Team of the Year and Grace Clough for Disabled Sportsperson of the Year.

For his contribution to Nottingham Trent University rowing, his work with Nottingham Rowing Club Juniors, its Sculling School and Learn to Row courses, Ashley Hewitt was declared Nottinghamshire's Young Coach of 2014. This was the first award to a rowing coach in 23 years, so many congratulations go to him!
