First assessment for Team GB rowers 2015

Over the weekend of 15-16 November, British Rowing held its first assessment of athletes hoping to represent the GB Rowing Team in 2015. It was held on a 5000m stretch of the River Witham in Boston, Lincs.

Nottingham Rowing Club sent 10 candidates coached by Julie Edwards and Dez Atkins and achieved some good results.

The Senior Men's race was won by Olympian Alan Campbell in a time of 17m 03.23s. First Nottingham man home in 20th place (in a field of nearly 100) was George Hallewell (18m 03.17s), with Ayrton Carlton (18m 03.32s) next. Jonathon Stimpson came 49th, George Eden was 51st, Jared Minnican 56th and Rowan Law, competing in the under 20 group and fresh from winning silver in the Junior World Championships GB quad, was 71st.

Laura Wheeler was 7th in a field of 48 which included Olympian Katherine Grainger. Katie Bartlett, winner of a silver medal in the GB Eight at the World U23 Championships, was 16th, and 6th in the U23 group. Kirsty Maxfield came 33rd.

Kathryn Aguilar-Agon was 27th in the lightweight women's race.

Nottingham's Juniors will race over the same course next week-end.
