Katie Bartlett, Nottingham Rowing Club's versatile athlete who is equally at home with sculling or sweep-oared rowing, has just returned with a silver medal from the World Rowing U23 Championships in Varese, Northern Italy.

In her 7th call up in as many years for Rowing Team GB, Katie was in the bows of the British Women's Eight. In the first round with only one crew going to the final they were headed by the USA, which put them into the repechage.

Aiming at a place in the final, the crew had a good row and held off an Australian challenge to win ahead of Australia, Belarus, Poland and Italy, who were eliminated.

In the final the USA took an early lead, leaving the rest of the field to scrap for the silver and bronze medals. GB had another almighty battle with the Australians, and having put paid to them it was the Germans who posed the next threat - but GB held them off to finish 2nd, with Australia 4th, Belarus 5th and Poland 6th.

Katie is part of the British Rowing 'Start' programme and is coached by Julie Edwards at the National Watersports Centre at Holme Pierrepont. She is fortunate in having strong family and Club support, and in addition has local sponsors Nest Lettings, The UPC Group, I2 Property Rentals and Insideland.

Katie has made her way from club sculler to international rower by following the progressive pathway available at Nottingham Rowing Club for those who have the talent and the ambition to succeed.
