Five crews from Nottingham Rowing Club took part in trials on Sunday 29th June for the 2014 Anglo-French match. This annual event is a J16 match between the two countries, with the aim of developing experience of international competition in junior competitors; this year, it will be held on Sunday 13th July in Nantes, France. The trials were held at the National Watersports Centre at Holme Pierrepont in windy conditions.

Two local comprehensive schoolboys, Faisan 'Fizz' Shah [Farnborough School, Clifton] and James Mawby [Nottingham City Academy] confirmed their National Schools' winner status, defeating York City and Leander Club in a field of eight to be nominated to represent Team GB in the Junior double sculls. This follows the nomination of Anna Thornton [Becket School], Kyra Edwards [George Spencer School] and Rowan Law [West Bridgford School] earlier in the year.

Harvey Kay from Rushcliffe School, the only Watersports Hub School in Nottinghamshire, dead heated in the J16 single sculls and lost the re-row as he prepares for the Fawley Cup for Junior Quadruple Sculls at Henley Royal Regatta later this week.

Siena Hayes [Loughborough High] and Katie Swales [South Notts Academy] came 5th, and Charlotte Brown [Nottingham Girls High] and Priya Jenkins [Loughborough High] came 8th in a field of 12 Junior Women's double sculls. The two doubles later joined forces and came 4th in the quadruple scull trial.

Nottingham Rowing Club have already produced five Junior international rowers this season - and hope to add some seniors soon.
