While many Nottingham Rowing Club members were racing at either Henley Women's, Marlow and Aiguebelette in France, a group of Masters rowers went to York to race on the River Ouse in the York Summer Regatta, returning with two trophies.

The F crew, for the over 60's, of Steve Cuthbert, Tony Lorrimer, Derek Crowley and Paul Johns coxed by Carole Dickinson beat a D four from the elite Guy Fawkes Rowing Club, made up of  parents and coaches of St Peter's School York, by six seconds after a very hard row.

The Masters I quadruple scull of Bill Payne, Carl Unwin [Nottingham & Union Rowing Club], Tony Lorrimer and Stuart Wharton beat York Rowing Club in the final. York stole an early lead but by half way Nottingham were level and they went on to win by clear water. Masters I crews have an average age of at least 75 years, and the commentator on this race was heard to make the point that the combined ages of the two crews was over 600 years! Youngster Tony Lorrimer felt he should have shown a little more respect!
