Following intensive trials and seat racing for places in  Rowing Team GB which took place at the National Watersports Centre at Holme Pierrepont last week, three Nottingham Rowing Club athletes (all from local comprehensive schools), have been selected to row in Munich.

Anna Thornton [Becket School], who has been coached by Claire Parnell, is in the Women's Junior Quadruple Scull, Kyra Edwards [George Spencer School] coached by Julie Edwards is in the Women's four, and Rowan Law [West Bridgford School] coached by Rushcliffe Bororough Council's Coach of the year 2013 Dez Atkins, is in a double scull. All are to don Team GB kit and take on European opposition.

The youngsters all won gold medals last year in the Anglo-French match and are hoping to repeat their success in Germany.

The regatta takes place on Saturday May 10th and Sunday May 11th on the 1972 Munich Olympic Regatta Course which will also be the venue for the Junior World Championships in August 2014. Over 700 junior rowers from 13 countries are expected to take part in the May event.

Financial support for the three athletes has been awarded by the trustees of the Carl Smith Memorial Fund. Carl, one of the most successful British rowers of all time, was tragically killed in a road accident returning home from a training session at the club. The fund was set up in his memory and supports aspiring junior rowers. Carl's emloyers Imtech helped to set up the fund with friends, and still contribute to it.
