Another win on the Tideway for Nottingham Rowing Club women

One of the biggest rowing events in the country, the Fuller's Head of the River Fours, was held on Saturday 30th November. A total of 449 crews raced from Mortlake to Putney on the Thames, the reverse of the Boat Race course. The overall  winners by a convincing 25 s were a Tideway Scullers School 'super-quad' of international single scullers, including GB's Alan Campbell in the two seat, who comfortably beat the top GB quad rowing as Leander, overtaking them in the process.

Nottingham Rowing Club had several crews competing, and in a new strategy for crew selection included promising junior rowers in with the seniors.This paid off handsomly with the Women's Intermediate 1 Quad winning their event. Sarah Bonar, a World Class Start athlete, was at stroke, Kyra Edwards (16) from the George Spencer School at three, Catherine Lineker from the high performance squad at two, and rowing bow 16 year old Anna Thornton from the Becket School. Rushcliffe's coach of the year Dez Atkins said they looked very good and lost count of the crews they overtook. They finished 164th overall, having started at number 314. 

First Nottingham boat home, in 36th place, was the Intermediate 1 Quad of World Class Start rowers coached by Lauren Fisher consisting of Alex Watkins, Jared Minnican, Ayrton Carlton and Sam Hayes. The Elite Quad was 43rd and included juniors Rowan Law [West Bridgford School] and Connor Gamble [South Notts Academy] rowing with Stuart Sykes and Anthony English. 72nd was another Intermediate 1 Quad with Ross McCoriston, Jon Stimpson, Callan Swanson and Lee Holland. 186th was the Intermediate 2 Coxed four with Josh Tolley, Kenny Gray, Jon Okon and Rob Jephcote coxed by Kat Noon. 235th was a Junior Men's Quad of Oli Benton [Trent Rowing Club], James Mawby [Nottingham City Academy], Peter Savage [Djanogly Academy ] and Jack Smith [Toot Hill School ]. 379th a Junior Women's Quad of Mollie Zalas [Grantham Girls School], Katie Swales [South Notts Academy], Priya Jenkins [Loughborough High School] and Sienna Hayes [Loughborough High School] and at 417th the Women's Intermediate 2 Coxed four of Berni McCabe, Annika Wing, Cassie White and Lou Townrow coxed by Jo Dodgson.

The crews and coaches have returned to the Trent for a concentrated period of training before the Christmas break.
