16 year old Rowan Law, a pupil at West Bridgford School, and his coach Claire Parnell have just returned from a very successful trip to row on the Rotsee in Lucerne in Switzerland.

Rowan, a member of Nottingham Rowing Club, was selected to single scull for Great Britain in the 'Coupe de la Jeunesse', a rowing match for older juniors contested by teams from all over Europe.

After a 17 hour drive from London the team were housed in an army barracks which Claire Parnell said was: 'Much better than expected although local temperatures were up to 35 C. So cold showers were the order of the day.'

In the semi-final Rowan rowed a 7min 14 secs, which is  95% of world class time for the event. He came 6th in the A final, won by Spain, which as one of the Windsor Boys scullers pointed out made him 6th in Europe - despite being two years below the age for the race. On the following day he won the B final.

'We learned loads', said coach Claire Parnell. 'Rowan has two more years as a junior so we can expect much more from him in the future.'
