Sun cream and floppy hats were the order of the day at the Metropolitan Regatta, held on the weekend of 1st and 2nd June over 2,000m on Dorney Lake, site of the 2012 Olympic Regatta. For a pleasant change, conditions were warm, dry and sunny. The "Met" is seen as an early indication of crew form for Henley Royal Regatta and Henley Women's Regatta.

Nottingham Rowing Club’s High Performance group were there with coach Dez Atkins.

On day one Yasmin Marks won Intermediate 2 single sculls, beating Vesta and Tees; Dez called this "A really good performance". Pippa Whittaker, back from injury came second in Elite sculls and Nikki Spencer was fourth; the winner was Leander’s Captain, Debbie Flood. The coxless four had mixed fortunes.

On day two Nottingham Rowing Club’s Katie Bartlett stroked a composite U23 crew to victory in the Women’s Senior eights, beating Thames Rowing Club in the final. In the women's Intermediate 1 quadruple sculls Beth Lloyd, Sarah Bonar, Laura Champion and Louise Hart, sponsored by Xcel Milk, moved away from Reading University after 500m and won by clear water.

Nikki Spencer was second and Yasmin Marks fourth in women’s elite lightweight sculls, where the event was won by Charlotte Taylor from Putney Town Rowing Club. In open Elite sculls, NRC's Anthony English came third. The women’s coxless four were fifth.

Dez felt that all athletes raced well and progress had been made.
