Nottingham City Regatta and the BR Masters' Champs

The weekend of 18th and 19th June saw two of the largest rowing events in the country take place at the National Watersports Centre at Holme Pierrepont in wildly contrasting weather conditions. On a cold and breezy Saturday, Nottingham City Regatta saw over 400 crews racing over the full Olympic distance of 2000m, while Sunday’s glorious weather saw a packed British Rowing Masters’ Championship, where races were held over 1000m.

Nottingham City Regatta saw success for local club Nottingham Rowing Club with nine wins. The morning saw Nottingham RC claim wins for Ed Fisher & Declan Gamble in Intermediate 3 pairs, Kyra Edwards in Women’s Junior 17 sculls, Nikki Spencer in Women’s lightweight sculls and Laura Champion, Ellie Whittle, Sarah Bonar & Bethan Lloyd who picked up the Women’s  Intermediate 2 quads. After lunch Nottingham RC success continued with wins for the double scull of Ed Mace and Anthony English in Elite double sculls, Lyndsay Marshall in Women’s elite single sculls, Rowan Law in Junior 18 sculls, Kyra Edwards in Women’s Junior 18 sculls and Ayrton Carlton in Intermediate 3 sculls.

Success continued for Nottingham RC on Sunday, with wins for Graham Angus & Chris Beesley in Masters’ D double sculls, Bill Payne in G/H/I single sculls, Sarah Royles in Women’s Masters’ D Novice single sculls and Lewis Muirhead in Masters’ A Novice single sculls. As well as these wins, the club picked up a further five silver medals in what is becoming a highly competitive regatta.
