The 2013 Head of the River Race has been cancelled due to severe weather forecast in London. Organisers announced on Friday 22nd of March that the race would not be run due to a combination of wind direction and speed, the strength of the stream and the low temperatures forecast over the weekend.

Crews from Nottingham Rowing Club, Nottingham & Union Rowing Club, Nottingham University Boat Club and Nottingham Trent University Boat Club were due to take part.

The stretch of river between the bottom of Chiswick Eyot and St Paul’s School was of particular concern to HORR organisers, with easterly 15-30 mph winds, freezing temperatures and strong stream leading to potentially dangerous conditions for the 400 eights taking part in the event, many of whom have little experience of rowing on the Tideway.

The Vesta Veterans' Head, due to take place on Sunday 24th March, which had men's and women's entries from the two Nottingham Clubs, has also been cancelled due to the inclement weather and potential dangerous conditions on the Tideway.

Nottingham RC President Keith Atkinson said: "It takes an enormous amount of work to run major events like these and the decision to cancel is never taken lightly - I have a great deal of sympathy with the event organisers. I applaud their decision, as the safety of competitors has to come first".
