In October, four of Nottingham Rowing Club’s Junior Squad, coached by Claire Parnell, attended Early Identification Trials in Boston, Lincolnshire to row over a 5,000m stretch of the River Witham.

The girls, Anna Thornton and Olivia Duckworth, both from Fernwood School, had already done a qualifying 2,000m row on the Concept2 Indoor Rowing Machine and had recorded under 7min 50 secs. Of the 60 entrants Anna came 7th and Olivia 38th.

The boys, Rowan Law from West Bridgford School and Connor Gamble from South Notts Academy (Radcliffe on Trent) had gone under 6min 55 secs for the ergometer test and came 37th and 49th from a field of nearly 140.

As a result of the trials Anna has been asked to join a prospective Team GB group to train in Nantes in France in December.
