The Nottingham Post Sports Awards were held at the East Midlands Conference Centre on Thursday October 4th to celebrate the County's sporting excellence.

Former Nottingham Forest player and European Cup winner John Robertson received a Lifetime Achievement award. Boxer Carl Froch was Sportsman of the Year and Rebecca Adlington was named as Sportswoman of the Year. Olympic gymnast Sam Oldham was Young Sportsperson of the year.

Nottingham Rowing Club’s Junior Squad, coached by their co-ordinator Claire Parnell, was declared the U19/School Team of the Year.

The full squad was Katie Bartlett (Trinity School), Olivia Kay and Harvey Kay (both from Rushcliffe School), Faisan Shah (Farnborough School), Rowan Law and Niall Hughes (both from West Bridgford School), Olivia Duckworth and Anna Thornton (both from Fernwood School), Mary Wilson (Nottingham Girls' High School), Connor Gamble (South Notts Academy), Dominic Parnell (Balderton School) and Peter Savage (Djanogly Academy).

'We are so proud of our athletes', said Club President Keith Atkinson. 'Rubbing shoulders with the County’s sporting greats was a great experience, but no more than they deserve - after all, they beat the mighty Eton College at the National Schools' Regatta. Credit goes to their coach, their long-suffering parents but most of all to the youngsters themselves. Watch out for more from them next year!’
