Katie wins world B final

Katie Bartlett, a pupil at Trinity School Aspley and star member of Nottingham Rowing Club has just won the B final at the World Rowing Championships in a sweltering Plovdiv in Bulgaria.

Katie is normally coached by World Class Start coach Julie Edwards and sponsored by local property developers Insideland, but with her colleagues Jess Leyden from Hollingworth Lake Rowing Club, Joanna Unsworth from Henley Rowing Club and Lucy Burgess from Northwich Rowing Club was coached by British Rowing’s Richard Bolton.

Wearing the prestigious GB kit the quadruple scull came third in their first heat behind the USA and Australia and in front of Denmark and Japan - this put them in the repechage which they duly won beating China, the Czech Republic, France and Japan.This put the crew into the semi-final with the first three going on to the A final.

Romania, Belarus and Italy put them into the B final to establish world rankings 7-12. In their final the crew took an early lead and were able to control the race from the front and they went over the 2000m finish beating China, Greece, Australia, the Czech Republic and Ireland.

This brings to an end a most successful season for Katie. She is the National Schools' Champion and course record holder for Women’s Championship Sculls. After a short but well earned break she will be gearing up for U23 challenges.
