While some members of Nottingham Rowing Club braved cold and fog in Boston and York, girls from the club's High Performance Group, accompanied by coaches Dez Atkins and Lauren Fisher, flew out to warm and sunny Barcelona to compete in the 16th Trefeu Internacional Cuitat de Barcelona, sponsored by the Reial Club Maritim de Barcelona. Rowing on the harbour at the end of the Ramblas, in some challenging water conditions at times, the crew of Yasmin Marks (stroke), Philly Whittle, Ellie Whittle and Nikki Spencer (bow) won the final of the quadruple sculls by half a length and brought back a splendid trophy on a marble base.

Coach Dez Atkins was delighted with the generous support given by the hosts and hopes that this will become a regular part of the winter programme. The Barcelona Club President sent a copy of the history of watersports in the harbour to his opposite number in Nottingham, Keith Atkinson.
