Coming hot on the heels of the World Rowing Championships, the European Rowing Championships were held in Bulgaria.

Over 400 competitors representing 29 nations took part; Team GB entered six boats. Athletes from Nottingham Rowing Club were part of a development squad looking for places in Olympic crews.

Nottingham Rowing Club athlete Vicki Meyer-Laker and ex-NRC rower Monica Relph, who now rows with Reading University, competed in Bulgaria in the GB women’s eight; the crew had previously won at the Metropolitan Regatta and at Henley Women’s Regatta. They came fourth in the final behind Romania, Bulgaria and the Ukraine but in front of Russia and Poland.

This brings to an end the Regatta Season, during which Nottingham Rowing Club won over 100 trophies. Athletes are now returning to winter training and preparing for the long distance ‘Head’ races. The next race on the River Trent is the Autumn Head to be held on Sunday October 16th for single scullers and crew boats, finishing outside the club just below Trent Bridge.
